Volleyball splits day two of the Lycoming Tourney 3-2, 3-2

BRADFORD, Pa. – The Pitt-Bradford volleyball team split its final day of the Lycoming Tournament with a 3-2 defeat and a 3-2 victory. Senior Brittni Cumberland was named to the All-Tournament team for her efforts on the court.

Pitt-Bradford (5-9) suffered the 3-2 defeat in the first game to Catholic. The Panthers won games one and four, 25-21 and 25-19. Catholic used wins in games two, three and five 25-19, 25-12 and 15-10 to seal the victory.

Senior Taylor McMillen had a monster performance offensively with 18 kills. She tacked on four digs and three blocking assists as well. Fellow senior Cumberland had five kills and 20 assists to go with 10 digs.

Sophomore Kelsey Repke had one kill and 13 digs in her defensive specialist position.

Against a strong Catholic team, Pitt-Bradford more than held its own. The Panthers went toe-to-toe for five games before the offensive attack from Catholic proved too much in the end.

In game two, Pitt-Bradford defeated tournament-host Lycoming, 3-2. The Panthers used wins in games two (25-23), four (25-22) and five (15-12) to defeat the host. Lycoming earned its victories in games one (25-22) and three (25-18).

McMillen led the attack again in game two with 22 kills, one assist and eight digs defensively. Cumberland was close behind with eight kills, 19 assists and seven digs. Sophomore Brittany Watts came up big for the Panthers with 10 kills, two assists and four digs.

Junior Jenessa Ceprish played strong defensively for Pitt-Bradford with 17 digs and also tallied one kill and three assists.

Lycoming out-dueled the Panthers in the statistically with the edge in kills (65-58), assists (61-50) and digs (82-63). But in the end, it was Pitt-Bradford that used offensive opportunities to secure points and find a way to get the win.

Pitt-Bradford is set to host its first home match of the 2014 season when Houghton comes to the KOA Arena on Tuesday, Sept. 16. The match is set to begin at 7 p.m.
