Panthers drop match to Keuka, 3-1

KEUKA PARK, N.Y. – Close scores didn't seem to fall in favor of the Pitt-Bradford volleyball team, as the Lady Panthers dropped their match with the Keuka Storm, 3-1, on Thursday night. Pitt-Bradford fell 19-25, 25-20, 19-25 and 19-25.

The Lady Panthers (9-18, 3-1) came oh-so-close in each of the three sets they lost, but couldn't find a way to secure the victories in the end.

Keuka (8-10, 7-0) came out firing on all cylinders. The Storm found just enough defense to hold on and claim the match.

Guiding the offense throughout the match was senior Brittni Cumberland. Cumberland tallied four kills, 13 assists and 13 digs. Fellow senior Taylor McMillen led the team in kills from her outside-hitter position with 16 on the night. She tacked on three assists and two digs.

Defensively, freshman Haley Vinelli turned in her strongest performance of the year, finishing with 16 digs. She also registered two assists and four kills. Also having a solid night on the floor was junior Jenessa Ceprish with 14 digs and one kill. Sophomore Kelsey Repke notched 12 digs and one kill.

"We had too many lapses tonight," said head coach Tina Phillips. "We only had the lead once and that was in the second game. This group still needs to learn how to close out games. We get a much needed break and have to get back at it in conference play the rest of the way."

Pitt-Bradford, owning a 3-1 record in conference play, still controls its own destiny in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference at the moment. The Lady Panthers return to action on Wednesday, Oct. 15, as they travel to face D'Youville at 7 p.m. in Buffalo, N.Y.
