Lady Panthers suffer 3-0 defeat to Medaille

BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Pitt-Bradford volleyball team struggled to find its offense in an Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference match on Tuesday night as it fell 3-0 to Medaille on the road.

Pitt-Bradford (11-20, 5-3) couldn't contain the ferocious attack that Medaille (10-19, 6-2) threw at it all night long. As a result, the Lady Panthers fell 25-17, 25-11 and 25-17.

Senior Brittni Cumberland led the Panthers with six kills, 16 assists and seven digs, while fellow senior Taylor McMillen registered 14 kills and one assist.

Freshman Haley Vinelli tallied one kill and 12 digs, and sophomore Brittany Watts paced the Panthers defensively on the front line with two blocks (one solo and one block assist).

The Mavericks jumped on the Panthers early in the first set and held on down the stretch to take a 1-0 lead over the visitors. The second set began much of the same way, although this time around Pitt-Bradford forced itself back in the match.

Trailing 6-5 early on, the Panthers kept it tight before a run midway through the set gave Medaille the win in the end. The third and final set belonged to Medaille from the first serve and the Panthers surrendered their final road contest of the regular season.

"This was a disappointing night," said head coach Tina Phillips. "Give Medaille credit, they outplayed us in every aspect. Taylor had a great night for us out there."

Pitt-Bradford hosts its final regular season home meet of the season on Saturday, Nov. 1. The Panthers welcome both La Roche and Wells to the KOA Arena for a tri-match.

Pitt-Bradford hosts La Roche for Senior Day at 1 p.m. La Roche and Wells square off at 3 p.m., while the Lady Panthers face Wells in the tri-match finale at 5 p.m.
