Mount Aloysius Tops Panthers In AMCC Opener

OLEAN, N.Y. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford women's tennis team fell to Mount Aloysius, 8-1, in its Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference opener.

"As a team, we hit the ground running and played consistent tennis in singles," Head Coach Susan Schenfield said. "Abby lost a tough second and third tie-break set. Her serves were well placed and her forehands were stronger to create the finishing points."

In Abbie Buerkle's No. 4 singles match, she earned the win in the first set, 6-4, but eventually lost the second and narrowly fell in the tiebreaker, 10-8.

Katelyn Wells earned the lone victory for the Panthers on the day in dominant fashion, 6-2, 6-0.

The No. 1 singles matchup featuring Maya Bingaman was competitive, but she went down, 6-4, 6-4.

Jessica Jordan nearly forced a third set with a 7-5 score in her No. 5 singles match.

In doubles, the closest match was the No. 2 doubles with Abbie Buerkle and Jessica Jordan dropping, 7-3.

Pitt-Bradford will have a quick turnaround as they head to D'Youville to continue AMCC action Sunday.
