Alfred Defeats Panthers In Home Opener

OLEAN, N.Y. -- Alfred defeated the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford women's tennis team in its home opener at the St. Bonaventure outdoor courts Friday evening.

Alfred took the six necessary points to earn the victory before the rest of the match was suspended due to darkness.

"We played well in doubles but seemed to lose momentum in singles," Head Coach Susan Schenfield said. "We need to concentrate more on our returning style and can't give our opponents any free points on the serve."

In doubles, the No. 2 and No. 3 matchups saw close contests.

Jessica Jordan and Abbie Buerkle in the No. 2 spot, and Aaliyah Smith and Divya Guwalani in the No. 3 spot fell by narrow scores of 7-5.

Alfred then went onto take the top three singles matches.

Up next, the Panthers will begin conference play as Mount Aloysius comes to town next Friday.
