Fredonia Takes 2018 Season Opener From Panthers

FREDONIA, N.Y. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford women's tennis team opened up its 2018 season at Fredonia Saturday.

Fredonia took the season opener in shutout fashion, 9-0, on the hot afternoon showdown.

"We played a very conservative game with some peak points," Head Coach Susan Schenfield said. "We need to continue to work and have the tenacity to not hang back and play chess while our opponents are hitting fireballs. Each win or loss will help us improve. There is no limit to our improvement."

In No. 5 singles, Jessica Jordan gave her opponent a competitive second set, but fell 6-3.

The No. 6 singles matchup saw a tight matchup, as Aaliya Smith nearly took the second set but narrowly lost 7-5.

In doubles, the No. 1 duo of Maya Bingaman and Elanie Roberts, and the No. 2 duo of Rebecca Jordan and Abbie Buerkle each worked a point against their competition.

The No. 3 doubles matchup was tighter as Jessica Jordan and Smith fought hard but lost, 7-3.

Up next, the Panthers will play host to Alfred on Friday at 5 p.m.
