BRADFORD, Pa. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford women's tennis team captured its first victory of the season, 5-4, against La Roche under a hot sun at the Kessel Athletics Complex outdoor courts Saturday afternoon.

"Our goal was to take the court and commit to being active," Head Coach Susan Schenfield said. "When the ball was crossing the net, we were moving and poaching, disrupting the other team's focus."

Pitt-Bradford swept the doubles competition, as the No. 1 team of Alexa Holleran and Ashley Stoltz won 8-4, and the No. 2 team of Maya Bingaman and Jessica Jordan won 8-6.

The Panthers picked up a forfeit win in the No. 3 spot to round out the doubles scoring.

In singles action, Stoltz stayed perfect on the year, improving to 5-0. Capitalizing on her perfect record, she earned a perfect 6-0, 6-0 score in today's No. 4 victory.

"Ashley continued with her great shot selection and ability to absorb her opponent's pace," Schenfield added.

Katelyn Wells put together a strong, hard-fought No. 5 match, but fell in a tiebreaker.

"Katelyn's strong anticipation in the second set extended the match and gave her a chance to win," Schenfield said.

With the victory, Pitt-Bradford improves to 1-3 in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference action.

Pitt-Bradford will have a week off before next playing at Penn State-Altoona on Saturday, Sept. 23.
