Panthers Battle Hawks to Scoreless Draw

Bradford, PA. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford women's soccer team hosted Hilbert on Wednesday evening. Neither team found the back of the net in the game, as the match finished in a 0-0 draw.

The contest started slowly, as neither team carved out a chance in the opening ten minutes. Gianna Gomez, Mya King, and Avery Yard all had shots miss the target over the first 20 minutes of play, but Ainslie Gardner had the first and best chance for the Panthers in the 20th minute. Gardner blocked a pass from a Hilbert defender, which rebounded behind the defense, sending the forward on a breakaway. Her final touch proved to go a bit too far as it allowed the Hawk goalkeeper to cut down the angle and make a save to keep the game scoreless.

Hilbert controlled the majority of opportunities over the final 25 minutes of the half. Maddison Coe and her substitute, Mackenzie Harmon each made a pair of saves, while the Panthers also stopped a shot from going into the open goal and saw an effort hit the post.

After the break, the Panthers regained control and dominated possession. They took the first 8 shots of the half, forcing the Hilbert keeper to stop three of them, while two long shots from Emily Gibbons just sailed over the bar. Midway through the half, Mya King was able to wriggle free on the right wing and send a cross into the box that could not be redirected towards goal. Coe made one more save in the 2nd half.

Gianna Gomez and Mya King led the Panthers with four shots each. Gomez put three on target, while King forced a save on 2. Avery Yard and Emily Gibbons each took three shots, while Ainslie Gardner and Avery Benzel both had shots on goal. Maddison Coe made 3 saves in the game for the Panthers. Mackenzie Harmon played 6 minutes in relief of Coe after the starter went down injured, and made 2 saves in 6 minutes.

The Panthers are now 6-5-3 on the season with a 1-4-2 record in AMCC play. They will host Penn State Altoona on Saturday, while also celebrating Senior Day. Kickoff is slated for 3:30 p.m.
