Cobleskill, N.Y. – The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford women's soccer team picked up their first win of the season on Sunday, defeating SUNY Cobleskill 2-0.
The Panthers took an early lead as freshman Mya King put a long-distance shot in the top left corner in the third minute of play. Payton Frank intercepted a free kick and poked a pass between two Cobleskill defenders to King. King turned and took a few dribbles to her right before unleashing a quick right-footed shot from 25 yards that curled into the top left corner.
The Panthers maintained possession for the majority of the game and were finally able to add a second goal in the 71st minute. King received a pass from center-back Makartnee Mortimer and quickly spun with the ball, beating the entire Fighting Tiger defense with one move. Once on the break, she calmly slid a shot into the corner for her brace.
Mya King finished with 2 goals and put 6 shots on target. The goals were her 2nd and 3rd for the season. Makartnee Mortimer picked up her second career assist on the second goal. Freshman goalkeeper Mackenzie Harmon made 4 saves en route to her first career victory and shutout.
The Panthers record is 1-1-1 after their first week of play. They will be back in action on Wednesday at Penn State-Beaver and then will host Thiel on Saturday as part of Pantherfest at the Kessel Athletic Complex on Saturday. Their game is scheduled for a 3:00 p.m. kickoff.
