ALFRED, N.Y. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford women's soccer team defeated Alfred on Saturday, 1-0, to earn its first win and clean sheet of the 2017 season.

"We came out strong today and played our style from the start," Head Coach Melissa Lincoln said. "We got the win we've been looking for, and we're ready to get back out there tomorrow and work hard for another one."

The Panthers spent much of the early part of the first half in the upper third, pressing on attack. Pitt-Bradford fired four shots -- two on goal -- in the first 11 minutes of action.

With the offense clicking and connecting on every pass, the Panthers found the back of the net early.

Kaitlyn Williams set up Courtney Shade, who headed the ball past the Alfred keeper to give Pitt-Bradford a 1-0 lead at the 12:04 mark.

The lead would eventually hold into the break. Pitt-Bradford outshot Alfred, 9-2, in the opening period.

Despite a more aggressive Alfred attack in the second half, the Panthers held strong and kept the ball out of the net.

Alfred fired 11 of its 13 total shots in the second half, putting five total on goal.

Sarah Dailey saved all five shots on goal, earning a clean sheet in the team's first win of the season.

Pitt-Bradford fired 14 total shots in the game and forced the Alfred keeper to make seven saves.

Williams led the way with five shots and Shade had three. Delaney Houtz, Meghan Stuck and Meghan Thomas had two apiece.

The Panthers will play its fifth consecutive road game on Sunday at Keuka at 1 p.m. Pitt-Bradford will have its home opener Wednesday against Houghton at 5 p.m.
