Slovick Advances to Day 2 off NCAA Region II Qualifiers

Williamsport, Pa. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford wrestling team returned to action on Saturday for the NCAA Region II Qualifying Tournament. Nine Panthers grappled in the event and after 4 rounds of competition only D.J. Slovick was able to advance to the 2nd day of competition.

As a team, the Panthers tallied 16.0 points and are tied for 16th.

D.J. Slovick was the top performer for the Panthers, going 3-1 at 174. He started the competition with a win, taking his preliminary round with a pin at 53 seconds. In the championship round, he battled to a 1-1 tie through three periods, but was taken down in the sudden victory period and dropped into the consolation bracket. In the consolation matches, Slovick picked up two more victories by pin. He beat his first opponent in 57 seconds, and then secured a second day of competition with a pin in 1:08.

Two other Panther wrestlers picked up victories at the competition. Wrestling at 141, Dylan Slovick was credited with two wins on the day. In his preliminary match, Slovick received a medical forfeit, but was pinned in round 1 to drop to the consolation bracket. Once there, Slovick extended his day with a pin. He won his first consolation match in 1:50. Unfortunately, he was not able to advance any further, as he was defeated 13-7. Cameron Carter-Green had the final victory for Pitt-Bradford. he lost 6-0 in his opening match, but came back with a 4-2 win by decision in the first consolation round. 

The second day of competition is slated to begin at 10:00 a.m. on Sunday, March 2nd.
