Panthers Take 4th at AMCC Championships, Carter-Green, Slovick finish as Runners-Up

Erie, Pa. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford wrestling team traveled to Erie on Saturday to compete in the AMCC Championships. As a team, the Panthers accumulated 45.0 points to finish in 4th place. Individually, four Panthers secured podium spots, while Cameron Carter-Green and D.J. Slovick both finished as runners-up to secure all-conference honors.

Wrestling at 174, Slovick secured his 3rd career All-AMCC finish. After an opening-round bye, he secured his spot in the final with an 8-4 win by decision. In the championship match, he fell short, losing 8-1 to Travis Green of Penn College.

After missing his sophomore campaign through injury, Cameron Carter-Green picked up his second career all-conference honor. He also started with a bye, and then won his semifinal 7-5 with a late 3rd period takedown. Unfortunately, Carter-Green was injured in the win and was not able to recover for the final, losing by medical forfeit.

Despite missing out on all-conference honors. Two Panthers earned podium positions. Also wrestling at 285, Gavin Thompson took 3rd in the heavyweight division. Thompson won his first match with a pin at 4:01 but was pinned late in the semifinal. In the third-place bout, Thompson outlasted his opponent, picking up a 14-12 decision victory.

Nikolas Fegert also won a spot on the podium, finishing 4th at 149. Fegert pinned his opponent in 4:49 in his opening match but fell to the consolation bracket with a 9-0 loss in the semifinal. He made quick work of his next bout, pinning his opponent in 28 seconds to advance to the 3rd place match. In that bout, he was pinned to finish in 4th.

In addition to the podium finishers, three Panthers secured additional consolation victories. At 133, Joe Magnano won by pin in 3:24. Raymond Worsen III also picked up a win by fall, pinning his consolation opponent in 2:08 in the 157 lb weight class. Also at 157, Maamdy Traore eked out a 12-10 win by decision.

The Panthers will be back in action on Friday, Feb. 28th, when they compete at the NCAA Mideast Regional, hosted by Lycoming.
