Panthers Finish 6th at Rennie Rodarmel Allstate Invitational, 4 Grapplers Earn Podium Positions

Williamsport, Pa. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford wrestling team traveled to Williamsport, Pa. on Sunday to compete in Lycoming's Rennie Rodarmel Allstate Invitational. The Panthers tallied 51.5 points to finish in 6th as a team, while 4 Panthers earned podium positions in their weight classes.

As a team, the Panthers finished just one point behind Keystone in 5th, but half a point ahead of 7th-place King's.

Nikolas Fegert had the top finish for Pitt-Bradford, as he finished 2nd at 149. After an opening-round bye, Fegert won his first two bouts by pin. In the quarters he finished the match in 3:52, and then he earned a spot in the class final by pinning his opponent in 3:45 of the semifinal. Fegert had a tough matchup in the final, and after falling behind early in the first period, lost the match by a 16-4 major decision.

D.J. Slovick had the most wins for the Panthers at the event, finishing the day with a 4-1 record. He pinned his opening opponent in just 43 seconds but fell into the consolation bracket after losing in the quarterfinal by pin. Slovick struck back once in the consolation bracket, winning his next three matches, all with pins. All three matches did not get past the first period, as Slovick finished the bouts in 2:04, 1:42, and 1:38 respectively. He took 5th.

At 285, Gavin Thompson went 1-2 and finished in fourth. He won his opening match by pin in 5:54, and then in the semifinal match, just missed out on a spot in the final bout, falling in the sudden victory extra period 5-2. In his final placement match, Thompson lost by a 13-4 major decision.

Cade Stern was the final Panther to earn a podium position, finishing 6th at 125. He dropped his opening match but then battled back with an 11-4 4 decision and a pin in 3:43 to make the placement match. In his last bout of the day, he fell by a 12-4 major decision.

The Panthers will have one final tune-up event before their postseason begins. Next Saturday, they will head to Scranton, where they will wrestle in 5 dual matches at the University of Scranton Duals. Competition will begin at 11:00 a.m. in the John Long Center.
