Panthers Fall at Alfred State Trimatch

Alfred, N.Y.-- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford wrestling team brought the Fall semester portion of their schedule to a close on Saturday, dropping two matches at the Alfred State tri-match. They fell to the hosts 31-21 to open the day and then lost to SUNY Brockport 45-5 in match two.

Match 1 - Pitt-Bradford 21- Alfred State 21

The Panthers began the day with a match-up against the hosts, Alfred State. The Panthers jumped ahead at 125 when Cael Dailey won the opening bout by a 9-3 decision. The Pioneers took the lead, winning the next two matches by a 12-2 major decision at 133 and an 8-1 decision at 141. Pitt-Bradford went back in front when Nik Fegert pinned his opponent in 1:34 at 149. The hosts took control of the match with pins in the 157 and 165 weight classes. DJ Slovick pulled the Panthers to within 4 points, pinning his opponent in 3:19 at 165. Unfortunately, Alfred State was able to secure the match win, earning 12 points with a forfeit at 184 and a pin at 197. Cam Carter-Green closed the match with a pin at 285. HE won with a time of 1:08.

Despite losing the match, the Panthers were able to pick up three wins in exhibition bouts. Uriah Morris won an exhibition match at 125 with an 8-2 decision. Joe Magnano followed with a pin in 2:07 at 133. Finally, Gavin Thompson closed the exhibition portion of the match with a pin in 3:42 in the heavyweight class.

Match 2 - Pitt-Bradford 5 - Brockport 45

In their second match of the day, the Panthers had a tough matchup with Brockport. The Panthers were only able to come away with 1 win. At 165, D.J. Slovick had a dominating victory, picking up a 20-4 technical fall victory with a time of 6:18. Only 2 wrestlers could go the distance as Fegert lost by an 8-7 decision at 149 and Thompson lost 8-1. 

 

The Panthers finish the Fall semester with a 4-8 record in Dual meets. They will start the Spring off with their marquee team event, as Pitt-Bradford will host the AMCC Dual Tournament on Saturday, January 11th. The tournament will last all day and feature two mats of dual meet action, featuring all 5 AMCC teams.
