Panthers Earn Split at Penn State-Behrend Trimatch

Erie, Pa. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford wrestling team returned to the mat on Saturday, traveling to Erie for a tri-match hosted by Penn State-Behrend. The Panthers competed in two dual matches, defeating Hiram 23-20 before falling to the hosts 45-9.

Match 1 - Pitt-Bradford 23 - Hiram 20

The Panthers began the day with a win against Hiram, picking up a pair of wins in the last three bouts to secure the victory. 

Pitt-Bradford got off to a quick start, winning the first three matches to go ahead 13-0. Cade Stern started the match with a victory by pin at 1:48. Jacob Rodgers followed this with a dominant 14-5 major decision victory at 133. At 141, Dylan Slovick picked up a 10-4 win by decision. Things turned at 149, as the Panthers lost the next three bouts by tech fall, decision and forfeit which put the Terriers ahead 14-13.

Following a double forfeit at 174, D.J. Slovick put Pitt-Bradford back in front with a pin at 1:50. Hiram matched the pin at 197 to restore their one-point edge, leading to a crucial bout at 285. In the heavyweight match, Cameron Carter-Green came through in the clutch, winning by a 17-7 major decision to secure the team victory.

Match 2 - Penn State-Behrend 45 - Pitt-Bradford 9

In match two, the Panthers could not keep up with the host Lions, only winning 2 matches, one of them by forfeit. 5 different Panthers were pinned in their matches, while the Lions also earned 12 points through forfeits. Carter-Green was the only Panther to lose and last the entire bout, falling by a difficult 2-0 decision. Dylan Slovick earned 6 points through a forfeit at 141, while D.J. Slovick picked up the only Panther victory. He built an early lead in his match at 184 and then held on late for a 12-10 victory.

 

The Panthers are now 3-6 in dual matches. They will take a week off for the Thanksgiving holiday before hosting Elmira for their first home tournament of the season.
