Gietler Takes 6th at RIT Invitational

Rochester, N.Y. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford wrestling team wrapped up the Fall portion of their 2023-24 campaign on Saturday as they finished 12th with 28.5 team points. Colton Gietler was the only Panther to earn a podium spot, as he finished 6th at 184.

Gietler picked up 11 team points for the Panthers on the way to his 6th-place finish. He started his day with a win by fall at 2:07 in the opening round but fell into the consolation bracket with a loss in the quarter-final. He followed that up with three straight victories to earn a spot in the placement round. He pinned his first opponent in 1:51, before winning the next two by decision 5-4 and 7-3.

Five other Panthers were able to win multiple matches for the Panthers. Wrestling at 149, Mamady Traore had a strong start to the day, winning his first two matches. He pinned his opening opponent in 1:44, before winning his second by technical fall 17-2. Once in the quarterfinal, Traore struggled to find success, as he lost his next two matches. He totaled 5.5 points for the Panthers.

Freshman Nikolas Fegert also picked up 5.5 points at 149. Fegert advanced to the quarterfinal with a win by fall at 2:20 and a 7-1 decision victory. He also fell in the quarters but was able to pick up a major decision victory 14-3 in the consolation bracket, before being eliminated in the 5th round. 

D.J. Slovick had another strong outing for the Panthers, picking up a pair of wins. He opened his day with a 19-3 technical fall victory but fell in the next round. In the consolation bracket, Slovick pinned his first opponent in 1:47 before losing a tough match by decision 13-10.

Two other Panthers picked up multiple victories on the day. Daren Christian won 3 matches in the consolation bracket to total 4 points at 157. Uriah Morris totaled 3 points with a fall victory at 6:27. 

The Panthers will head to the break after the tournament. They will be back in action on Tuesday, January 9th, when they host Jamestown Community College in a dual match. The action will begin at 7:00 p.m. in KOA Arena.
