Panthers Finish 13th At RIT Invitational

ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford wrestling team competed in the RIT Invitational Saturday.

The Panthers finished 13th of 16 teams with 40 points. Worcester Polytechnic Institute won the event with a score of 139.5.

"We had a good day of wrestling as a team," Head Coach Colin Johnston said. "Neiko had a really good day. I saw a lot of good things. I am seeing a lot of improvement as we continue through the year."

Neiko Kuntz placed sixth in the 141 weight class after a major decision (8-0) win in round one and eventually wrestling his way to the consolation semifinal before losing in the fifth-place match by rule.

Kuntz was the top scorer for the Panthers with 13 points.

In the 131 class, Colton Davis advanced to the championship quarterfinals and was eventually eliminated in the fifth round of the consolation bracket.

Derek Ridgeway advanced to the second round of the 165 championship bracket and went onto wrestle his way to the fifth round of the consolation bracket, picking up three wins to along the way.

In the 174 class, Nathan Powley moved onto the championship bracket second round, then picked up two wins to end up in the fourth round of the consolation bracket.

Quentin Ellis put together a strong run, winning hits first two 184 matches by falls to advance to the championship quarterfinals.

Dan Sibel picked up a win by fall in the 197 championship bracket. He later made his way to the third round of the consolation bracket.

In the 285 weight class, Garrett Smead advanced to the second round of the championship bracket with a win by decision in the first round. He then won two matches in the consolation bracket and ended up in the fourth round.

Up next, Pitt-Bradford will compete in the Alfred State Open Saturday, Dec. 8.
