WASHINGTON, Pa. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford wrestling team competed in its first ever invitational Saturday at the Washington & Jefferson Invitational.
Pitt-Bradford finished 12th out of 14 competing teams.
"The guys did really well today," Head Coach Colin Johnston said. "We made some really big improvements from the last match."
Elijah Hernandez (125) advanced on a bye in the bracket and narrowly lost, 10-9, in his second match.
At 133, Colton Davis defeated his opponent in his first match with a pin in 3:49. He then lost in the second match.
He later picked up a second win by pin in 2:53 in the consolation bracket.
At 141, Neiko Kuntz also advanced to the second round with a win in his first match, defeating his opponent 15-1.
Victor Elias advanced to the third round in the consolation bracket of the 157 class with a pin in 5:39 during his second-round match.
Derek Ridgeway and Dan Shields both advanced all the way to the quarterfinals of the 165 weight class. Ridgeway secured an advancement with a bye followed by a 14-3 win, and Shields also advanced on a bye, then earned a pin in 4:10.
The 174 weight class saw a similar result as Deven Simpson and Nick DiStefano both advanced to the quarterfinals, Simpson a 5-4 win and DiStefano a pin in 4:14.
Simpson also picked up a 5-4 win in the consolation bracket.
In the 184 class, Quentin Ellis earned a quick pin in 1:05, and later pinning his opponent in just 0:53 in the consolation bracket.
Garrett Smead and Sam Colebert pinned their opponents in the first round of the 285 weight class competition.
Joseph Blanco and Colebert later wrestled each other in the consolation bracket, with Colebert winning 20-2.
Colebert went onto advance to the quarterfinals of the consolation bracket.
Up next, Pitt-Bradford will compete in the John Carroll Duals next Sunday.
