
Pittsburgh, PA -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford women's bowling team's season came to an abrupt end on Saturday as they were defeated 2-0 in the first elimination game of the AMCC Championship Tournament by Hilbert.
The match opened with a traditional scoring game. The Panthers did not bowl to their average, but also couldn't keep up with the Hawks who posted their best team score of the season in a 904-792 win. Jaylee Koppenhaver led Pitt-Bradford with a score of 182, while fellow freshman Mackenzie Gill was 5 pins behind at 177. The other three Panthers in the lineup finished within 4 pins of each other. Emma Pablic posted a 146 and Erin Wales finished at 145. Brookelyn Garvey finished the scoring at 142.
Pitt-Bradford needed a victory in the second part of the mega-match to keep their season alive, but could not keep up with Hilbert who had another strong game. The Panthers put forward a valiant effort, but came up short, losing 873-904. They lost the first game 164-179, but then cut into the lead with a 162-158 win in game two. The teams exchanged 5-point wins over the next two games, with Hilbert winning game 3 199-194, and the Panthers answering with a 196-191 win in the fourth. The match moved to game 5 with Pitt-Bradford needing to make up an 11-pin deficit. In the final game, the Panthers fell short, losing 157-177, and the match 0-2.
After the match, senior Brookelyn Garvey was selected to represent Pitt-Bradford on the All-Tournament team.
The Panthers finish the season with a 33-41 record across all formats and a 4th place finish in the conference.
