Kenmore, N.Y. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford women's bowling team returned to the lanes on Saturday, competing in the Niagara Spring Classic. The Panthers battled a tough schedule but came away with a 2-2 record through four matches, with a pinfall of 4064, putting them in 10th.
The Panthers began their day against Bryant. In the closest match of the day, they were able to squeak by the Bulldogs, winning 846-842. Brookelyn Garvey led the way with a 203, while Mackenzie Gill was just behind her at 190. Jaylee Koppenhaver had a strong game at 172, while Erin Wales and Emma Pablic rounded out the team at 159 and 122 respectively.
They followed that up with a match against fellow AMCC member Penn State-Behrend, winning another tight match 866-840. Garvey once again had the high game for the Panthers, this time posting a 202. Koppenhaver was 2nd for the Panthers at 178, while Wales increased her score by 10 pins to post a 169. Gill finished at 163, while Olivia Shultz stepped in and bowled a 154.
Pitt-Bradford was unable to remain undefeated in their third match, as they failed to keep up with the hosts, Niagara, falling 868-770. Garvey had her best game od the day at 209, but the rest od the team finished below their averages for the day. Gill posted a 166, while Koppenhaver dropped to a 146. Wales finished with a 134 and Pablic bowled a 115.
The Panthers had a bye in the 4th match of the session, but still posted a score of 789. Garvey broke the 200 mark for the 4th straight game, finishing on the number at 200.
To close the day, the Panthers faced Mercyhurst. They slightly increased their score but fell to the Saints 918-793. Koppenhaver stepped up to lead the team at 180, while Gill was just two pins behind her at 178. Wales had her 2nd best score of the day at 165, while Garvey slipped back, finishing at 148. Pablic finished the scoring at 122.
Brookelyn started the day in impressive fashion, however, a difficult 5th match dropped her average out of the top 10 in the tournament, putting her in 11th place at 193.40 pins per game. Mackenzie Gill finished the day 26th with an average of 171.20. Jaylee Koppenhaver and Erin Wales were two spots apart in 24th and 26th. Wales finished at 163.80, while waled averaged 151.80. Emma Pablic was 54th in total pinfall at 359 pins over three matches, while Olivia Shultz totaled 309 in two matches to average 154.50 pins per game.
The Panthers will be back in action for four Baker matches and a placement match on day two of the event. Bowling will begin at 9:00 a.m.
