Panthers Finish Third at 2nd AMCC Round Robin

Greensburg, Pa. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford women's bowling team wrapped up their AMCC regular season schedule on Sunday, finishing the second round robin with a 2-1 day to take third at the event. Along with the third-place finish at the Round Robin, they also secured the 3rd overall seed at the AMCC Championship Tournament.

The Panthers started off on the right foot, taking down Penn State-Behrend 880-827 in the first match of the day. Jaylee Koppenhaver led the Panthers in the opener, bowling an even 200. Erin Wales followed at 190 with Brookelyn GArvey two pins behind at 188. Mackenzie Gill posted a score of 174 and Emma PAblic rounded out the team at 128.

Pitt-Bradford let off the gas in their second matchup and were upset by Hibert 825-732. Koppenhaver had the high game for the Panthers again, posting a score of 170. Wales, Gill, and Garvey all finished within nine pins of each other, bowling games of 151, 145, and 142 respectively. Olivia Shultz bowled in her only match of the day and finished with a 124. 

In their final match of the event, the Panthers closed strong, defeating Alvernia 862-709. Koppenhaver continued her strong performance, leading the team for the third consecutive game at 196. Gill and Garvey bowled closer to their averages at 176 and 170, while Wales posted a 167 and Pablic bowled a 153.

Overall, the Panthers tied for third place with a 4-3 record and secured the 3rd place spot due to having wins over Pitt-Greensburg and Penn State-Behrend, with whom they were tied. They also finished the event with the 2nd best pinfall, totaling 5,893 pins over 7 matches. Saint Vincent led with 6,436 pins and William Smith was 2 pins behind the Panthers at 8,891.

Individually, three Panthers finished in the top 6. Mackenzie Gill led Pitt-Bradford with 1,262 pins, for an average of 180.29 to finish 4th. Jaylee Koppenhaver moved up to 5th on the strength of her final day, finishing with a total pinfall of 1,231 and a per-game average of 175.86. Brookelyn Garvey was just behind her in 6th at 1,208 pins and an average of 1.72.57. Erin Wales bowled in 6 of 7 matches to finish with 954 pins and an average of 159.00. Emma Pablic bowled 5 matches with an average of 155.80 pins per game and Olivia Shultz bowled in 3 games with a final average of 153.00.

Along with their 3rd place finish at the Round Robin, Pitt-Bradford also secured the #3 seed in the end-of-season AMCC Championship Tournament. They finished AMCC play tied with Penn State-Behrend at 9-5 but outscored the Lions 1635-1609 in their head-to-head matchups. They will face #6 Pitt-Greensburg in their first match of the Tournament with a chance to meet #2 William Smith in the semifinal.

The Panthers will be back in action on Saturday, Feb. 22nd, when they bowl in the Niagara Spring Classic at Classic Lanes in Kenmore, N.Y.
