Erie, Pa. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford women's bowling team picked up a three-game sweep at Penn State-Behrend in their last tune up before the 2nd AMCC Round Robin on February, 7th. The Panthers took two traditional matches 870-812 and 927-784 and then won a best-of-seven Baker match with the Lions 4-1.
The Panthers breezed to a pair of traditional victories, led by senior Brookelyn Garvey. In game one, she bowled a 244 to lead the Panthers to a 879-812 win. Erin Wales performed strongly in the match with a 194, and Mackenzie Gill was third for Pitt-Bradford at 167. Olivia Schultz and Jaylee Koppenhaver both finished at 137.
Match two saw the four returning bowlers finish over 180 as they defeated the Lions by 143 pins. Gill finished first at 210, while Garvey was a few pins behind her at 203. Jaylee Koppenhaver just missed reaching 200 as well, finishing with a score of 196. Wales bowled a 183, while Emma Pablic stepped in and posted a 135.
To close the dual, the teams participated in a best of 7 baker match. The Panthers took an early lead, winning game one 175-125 and game 2 235-166. They struggled in game three, falling 117-148, but struck right back with a 183-168 win in the fourth game and a 176-161 victory in the clincher.
The Panthers move to 23-29 on the season. They will be back in action on Friday, Feb. 7th at the 2nd AMCC Round Robin of the season. The Panthers head into the round robin with a 5-2 record after the first putting them in a three-way tie for 2nd. The Panthers will face all 7 teams in traditional-style bowling. The Action is set for Friday evening in Altoona.
