Panthers Faces LaRoche to Begin Closing Stretch

Bradford, Pa. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford women's basketball team will take on LaRoche University on Monday night to begin the second half of their AMCC schedule.

The Panthers currently sit in a 3-way tie for 8th place in the AMCC with a 2-8 record. After picking up two wins before their winter break, the Panthers have not been able to get back in the win column, losing all 5 games in the new year. Despite not being able to pick up a win, the Panthers have remained competitive in each game, as they have been able to remain within a few possessions of their opponents late in each second half. In their last game, Pitt-Bradford was unable to stay with their hosts, Mount Aloysius, who was able to pull away from the free-throw line in the 4th quarter. The final score was 59-48. The Panthers have been led by two upperclassmen this season. Shirleah Ragin is the team's leading scorer, as she has averaged 10.6 points per game, while Shaelyn Snipes is just behind her at 10.4 points per game. Jenna Hicks leads the team in rebounds, averaging 8.3 per contest.

LaRoche is at the top of the AMCC, as they are 10-0 against AMCC opponents. In their last contest, the Redhawks defeated the second-place team in the conference, Hilbert, by a score of 84-69. LaRoche is led by senior Jenna Cole, who averages 13.1 points per game. The Redhawks have 3 others that average double figures. They are Dasja Anderson (12.3), Ayanna Mazyck (12.2) and Danajah Sanders (10.9).

In their previous matchup this season, LaRoche jumped ahead of the Panthers early leading to a 72-47 victory. Anderson scored 20 points for the Redhawks, while Cole and Sanders added 10 apiece. La'Shyra Williams scored 17 points and grabbed 9 rebounds for Pitt-Bradford, while Shaelyn Snipes added 16 points and 9 rebounds.

The game is scheduled for an 8:00 p.m. tip-off in KOA Arena. The Pitt-Bradford Tennis team is continuing their  Hot Paws campaign, as they are collecting winter clothing items to be donated to local schools for distribution to children in need. Additionally, in cooperation with the AMCC, the Pitt-Bradford chapter of SAAC, Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, is participating in the SAAC for Socks program, collecting socks to be donated to the homeless in the home areas of different AMCC institutions.
