Pitt-Bradford Basketball Teams Host Franciscan on Community Day

Bradford, Pa. -- With the semester break upon them, the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford men's and women's basketball teams will welcome staff, faculty and local community members to cheer them on as they host Franciscan University on Saturday Afternoon. The men's team tips off at 2:00 p.m. and the women tip off at 4:00. 

The men's team will be looking to get off of a three game losing streak when they host the Barons on Saturday. In their last game, the Panthers fell on the road to La Roche by a score of 95-60. Nick Carmichael led the way with 16 points in the loss, while Justin Kusiappouh added 7 points and 9 rebounds. On the season, Kusiappouh is the team's leading scorer and rebounder. He is averaging 12.5 points and 11.5 rebounds per game. His rebounding percentage leads the AMCC. Deondre Terwilliger and Zach Dahlstrand are also averaging double figures, scoring 10.5 and 10.0 points per game.

The Barons are coming into the game off of a 2-point loss to Hilbert. They are 2-5 on the season and 1-2 in AMCC play. Franciscan's leading scorers are Junior Sean Hickey and Senior Matt Trent. Hickey is 6th in the AMCC in scoring with 16.9 points per game and Trent adds in 12.3 points per game. 

The Pitt-Bradford women's team returns home in search of their first win of the season. They fell at LaRoche in their previous contest by a score of 72-47. Freshman La'Shyra Williams scored a career high 17 points in the contest, while Shaelyn Snipes scored 16. Both players finished with 9 rebounds. Snipes is the team leading scorer through 7 games, averaging 12.1 points per game. Jenna Hicks is 4th in the AMCC in rebounding, averaging 9.7 rebounds per contest. 

Franciscan are 2-4 on the year, with a 1-2 record against AMCC opponents. They are coming off of a 14 point home loss to Hilbert last weekend. Abby Baierl is the Barons leading scorer, averaging 14.0 points per game. Estelle Leon averages a double double, recording 10.5 points and 10.3 rebounds per game.

In addition to the action on the court, other Pitt-Bradford athletic teams are working to serve the local community. The Pitt-Bradford tennis teams have begun their annual "Hot Paws" campaign. In this service project, the teams are collecting donations of winter clothing items to be donated to Bradford Area schools to be distributed to children in need. Any items for donation will be collected in the Main Lobby of the McDowell Sport and Fitness center prior to and throughout the games.
