Lady Panthers come up short against Medaille, 61-54

BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Pitt-Bradford women's basketball team traveled to Medaille and fell to the Mavericks, 61-54.

Pitt-Bradford (16-7, 13-4) was led offensively by senior Alicia Kimmel (Pine Grove/Pine Grove) who recorded a double-double with 15 points and 15 rebounds.

Medaille (10-14, 9-8) was led by Alicia Montalvo with 21 points and seven rebounds.

Pitt-Bradford started off the first half exchanging baskets with the Mavericks in a tightly contested game until the Lady Panthers jumped out to an 18-12 lead with 9:17 remaining in the first half

Medaille battled back by going on an 18-0 run and kept the Lady Panthers scoreless for over seven minutes.

Pitt-Bradford struggled from the field in the first half against a tough Maverick's defense, only shooting 27.8 percent.

Despite the poor shooting performance in the first half, the Lady Panthers only trailed the Mavericks 30-22 heading into the locker room.

The shooting struggles continued for the Lady Panthers early in the second half as they were unable to get any type of shot to fall.

The Mavericks capitalized on Pitt-Bradford's missed opportunities as they took their largest lead of the night at 43-30 after a Montalvo three-point play with 11:02 remaining.

The Lady Panthers would not go down without a fight as they battled back late in the second half to cut the Maverick's lead down to 45-40 with 7:27 left in the game.

Pitt-Bradford made it interesting down the stretch as it came within two points with 3:50 remaining. The Lady Panthers trailed 47-45.

Despite out-rebounding the Mavericks by a decent margin, 54-35, the Lady Panthers could not put together the offensive game they wanted as Pitt-Bradford fell to Medaille, 61-54.

Pitt-Bradford head coach Patrick Daniel said, "When you shoot 33 more shots than your opponent and get 32 offensive rebounds, you would expect to shoot better than 26 percent but that was not the case tonight."

Daniel went on to say, "We were awful on offense and did not get the stops we needed late. We will be better on Saturday."

The Lady Panthers will return home to face Mount Aloysius on Saturday for their Senior Game at 1 p.m. at KOA Arena.
