Alfred, N.Y. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford men's soccer team struggled to find their footing against the defending AMCC Champion Alfred State Pioneers on Tuesday evening, allowing 4 goals in the opening 7 minutes on the way to a 10-0 loss.
Freshman keeper Michael Riedel's goal was under attack by the hosts from the opening whistle, as the Pioneers took control of the game and stayed in the Panthers' end. They opened the scoring on their first shot of the game after 106 seconds of play. Riedel stopped the next two efforts but saw 3 more goals scored in a 3-minute span. They quickly added their 5th and 6th goals by the 18th minute and pushed their lead to 7 in the 26th. Despite wholesale changes, the Alfred State attack continued, scoring twice in 90 seconds to extend the Panthers deficit to 9-0 at the halftime break.
The second stanza included a stronger performance from the Panthers. They limited the Pioneers to only one additional goal while carving out two scoring chances of their own. The Pioneers maintained possession early in the half and scored their 10th of the game in the 65th minute. The Panthers were able to put their first shot on goal in the 73rd. A cross from Ayden Ratajczak beat the defenders and found Kojo Imbeah at the back post. Imbeah sent a one-time effort toward the goal that was stopped by the Pioneer keeper. With 5 minutes to go, Benjamin Preisch unleashed a long shot that found the target but was collected for a save.
Michael Riedel played all 90 minutes in goal for Pitt-Bradford, finishing with 10 saves. Kojo Imbeah and Benjamin Preisch each had a shot on goal in the 2nd half, while Kyle Carlsen had one shot in the first half that missed the target.
The Panthers fall to 0-9 on the season and 0-2 in AMCC play. They will look to get into the win column over the weekend when they head to Pittsburgh to take on Carlow at Highmark Stadium. Kickoff is slated for 4:00 p.m.
