Panthers Tripped up By Mounties on Senior Day

Bradford, Pa. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford men's soccer team hosted Mount Aloysius on Saturday evening, Falling to the Mounties 8-0. Before the action, the Panthers recognized four graduating players, Evan Baldwin, Jared Scarlett, Evan Schmidt, and Devin Stowe.

In a pregame ceremony, the Panthers took a few moments to recognize their seniors and their families. Baldwin has played 43 matches with 42 starts, mainly in the Panther defense. He registered 9 shots overall with 1 on target. Jared Scarlett is one of two Panther senior goalkeepers. Splitting the action the last two seasons, Scarlett has played 19 games in the Panther goal, winning two. He has made 165 saves with a save percentage of .693. He has one career shutout. Evan Schmidt is the other senior keeper. He has played 13 times and has 2 wins, including 1 shutout. He has made 100 saves and has a .690 save percentage. The final senior is midfielder Devin Stowe.  Stowe has played 43 times with 32 career starts. He has totaled 9 goals, with 4 assists, and has registered 47 shots, with 23 of them on goal. He has converted all 4 penalties he has attempted. 

The visitors started off on the front foot, quickly attacking the Panther goal and opening the scoring after 4 minutes as they headed in a corner kick at the near post. Schmidt was able to keep the deficit at one, as Schmidt made numerous saves and captured crosses before the guests doubled their lead in the 25th. Pitt-Bradford was able to carve out a chance just after the goal, as Will Smith had a shot parried away by the Mountie goalkeeper for a corner kick. The Panthers were unable to take advantage of the corner, and then saw the deficit grow, as Mount Aloysius scored once more in the 33rd minute. Bailee Verdill was able to find enough space for a shot from the right wing in the final minute but saw his chipped effort finish over the goal and out of play.

After the break, the Panthers were able to move into the offensive end, as Stowe put a shot on goal and forced a Mount Aloysius save. Scarlett took over in the Panther goal at halftime but faced a tough Mount Aloysius offense, who pushed their advantage to five in the 58th. Scarlett made 4 more saves in the half but saw the Mounties tack on 3 late goals. Verdill was able to create one final opportunity in the 81st, as he fired a shot toward the bottom corner but saw his effort parried away.

Evan Schmidt made 2 saves for the Panthers and had numerous captures on crosses in the box. Jared Scarlett played the second half and made 4 saves. The Panthers took 4 shots at the Mountei goal in the game. Bailee Verdill had two of them, putting one on goal. Will Smith and Devin Stowe also had shots on target. 

The Panthers fall to 1-10-2 on the season with a 1-4-1 record in AMCC play. They will be back in action on Wednesday for their final home game of the regular season. They will take on Hilbert in a crucial match that will have a large impact on the AMCC standings. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at Veteran's Memorial Park in Salamanca, N.Y.
