Panthers Close Season with 4-0 Loss to Lions

Bradford, Pa. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford men's soccer team's season came to an end on Tuesday afternoon as the Panthers lost to Penn State-Behrend 4-0.

The Panthers used a defensive game plan to slow the AMCC leading Lion's attack but fell behind after just 8 minutes when the visitors jumped on a bobbled ball in goal and easily slid a shot into the vacated goal. They added a second goal 10 minutes later as they were able to head home a corner kick. Goalkeeper Evan Schmidt took over from there, totaling 11 first-half saves to keep the deficit at two goals.

The Panthers maintained their gameplan as the game moved into the second half and kept the Lions off the board for the first 20 minutes, aided by two more Schmidt saves. The guests scored their third goal in the 66th minute on a low cross. The Panthers' best opportunity to score came in the 67th. After Schmidt made a save to his left, he quickly distributed the ball to the left wing. Pitt-Bradford quickly moved down the flank and Austin Hogan get behind the Lions' defense. He tried to chip a shot over the onrushing keeper but saw his effort deflected out for a corner. The Lions were able to add the 4th goal in the 79th minute to close the game.

Evan Schmidt made 15 saves for the Panthers in the loss. Austin Hogan's 2nd half effort was his only shot of the game. Lysandre Chaabi registered two shots, putting one on target.

The Panthers finish their season with a 2-14 record. They went 1-6 in AMCC play, putting them in 7th place.
