Altoona, PA. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford men's soccer team lost a crucial road game at Penn State-Altoona on Saturday. The Panthers fell behind early and were unable to grab momentum, losing the game 5-1.
The hosts took control right away, forcing Jared Scarlett into two early saves before opening the scoring in the 6th minute. Their attack continued as they took 6 shots in the next 10 minutes, putting 3 on net, including their second goal in the 18th minute.
The Panthers were able to pull a goal back in the 21st. after winning three straight corners, Rodney Walker was able to curl the third one into the net to score his first career goal. The lions responded 5 minutes later to score on the rebound to restore their 2-goal advantage.
The Panthers struggled coming out of the break, as it took the hosts just 19 seconds to score their fourth goal. The Panthers had a chance to cut into the lead in the 59th minute as the Lions fouled a Panther in the box, leading to a spot-kick. Scott Compson's penalty was saved, and the Lions retook the momentum, scoring their final goal in the 64th minute. Scarlett made 5 more saves after the final goal to keep the scoreline at 5-1.
Rodney Walker scored his first career goal and led the Panthers with 3 shots on target. Scott Compson also had 3 shots, but only put one on goal. Jared Scarlett made 12 stops in the loss.
The Panthers fall to 2-13 on the season and 1-5 in AMCC play. The Panthers have been eliminated from playoff contention with the loss. They will play their final game of the season on Tuesday, as they host Penn State-Behrend at 3:00 p.m.
