Panthers Blitzed in First Half, Lose to Pioneers 5-0

Bradford, Pa. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford men's soccer team fell behind Alfred State after 4 first-half goals, falling to the Pioneers 5-0.

The Pitt Bradford defense was under attack just after the opening kick, as the Pioneers forced Evan Schmidt into a save in the first minute of play. The Panther defense was able to repel attacks for 24 minutes until the hosts opened the scoring at 23:51. The Panthers turned the ball over just after the restart and Alfred State took advantage, scoring their second goal in as many minutes. They added a third three minutes later in the 28th. After falling behind 3-0, the Panthers were able to keep the hosts off the baord for approximately 15 minutes but Alfred State struck again, scoring in the 43rd.

The pressure on the Panther goal continued as the game moved into the second half, as the Pioneers outshot the Panthers 11-0 in the half, scoring their 5th and final goal of the game in the 67th minute.

Evan Schmidt logged 10 saves in the loss for Pitt-Bradford. Evan Baldwin took the Panthers' only shot of the game, missing the target.

The loss drops Pitt-Bradford to 2-12 on the season and 1-4 in AMCC play. They will travel to Penn State-Altoona on saturday for a crucial match that will likely determine a playoff birth. The game is scheduled to kick off at 2:00 p.m.
