Panthers Overmatched by Titans

Bradford, Pa. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford men's soccer team traveled to New Wilmington, Pa. on Thursday afternoon, making up a previously postponed game against the Westminster Titans. The Panthers trailed early, eventually falling 7-0.

The Panthers were able to put the first shot of the game on net in the 7th minute. Spencer Sklar found enough room to release a long shot from outside the 18, but it was caught by the keeper. The shot, however, was the high water mark for the Panthers offense, as Westminster controlled the rest of the first half, outshooting the Pitt-Bradford 20-1 in the first half. They took a 1-0 lead in the 16th minute and doubled their advantage in the 23rd. Despite the heavy pressure and attacking from the Titans, the Panthers goalkeeper, Jared Scarlett, kept Pitt-Bradford in the game, making 7 saves in the period.

The onslaught continued in the second half, as the Titans went right back to the attack. They were able to quickly expand their lead, as they scored three goals in a 4-minute span to put the game away. They added a 6th goal in the 61st minute and the final goal in the 85th. Sklar had another attempt find the target, but was unable to score. Scott Compson was also able to put an effort on goal in the 73rd, but it was saved.

Jared Scarlett made 14 saves in the game despite allowing 7 goals. Spencer Sklar took 3 shots, with 2 of them forcing saves. Scott Compson finished with two shots, one on goal.

The Panthers are now 1-5 on the season. Their next game is scheduled for Wednesday, September 21st when they face Elmira on the road.
