Sklar Scores Twice As Panthers Down Houghton 2-1 In OT

BRADFORD, Pa. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford men's soccer team captured a thrilling 2-1 overtime win against Houghton in its non-conference finale Tuesday at the Kessel Athletic Complex.

Spencer Sklar scored both goals to make up the Panther offense and give them the victory in an otherwise defensive-heavy contest.

With the win, Pitt-Bradford improves to 5-3 on the season and Houghton falls to 2-4-3.

With its fifth victory of the season Tuesday, Pitt-Bradford has already surpassed its win total from a season ago and is tied for the program's most victories since the 2011 squad won seven contests.

Pitt-Bradford has also protected its home field, earning a blemish-free 4-0 mark at the Kessel Athletic Complex.

Sklar scored the first goal of the contest, taking a feed from Oluwaferanmi Soyemi, went on the break and beat the Houghton keeper during the 28th minute.

The Panther lead would last until the half.

Houghton eventually tied it with a penalty kick in the 64th minute, and neither team could break the tie and the contest went into overtime.

Though the Highlanders held possession for much of the second half, the Panthers went on the attack early in overtime and Sklar found the back of the net for the second time, securing the victory for Pitt-Bradford.

Off a feed from Brent Kennedy, he took the ball down the left side and beat the keeper low for the win.

Sihle Sizani stopped four of the five shots on goal he faced to keep the Panthers in the game.

The Highlanders outshot the Panthers 12-4, with Pitt-Bradford making the most of just three total shots on goal.

Up next, Pitt-Bradford will resume AMCC action with a 1 p.m. kickoff at Mount Aloysius Saturday.
