BRADFORD, Pa. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford men's soccer team opened up a three-game homestand Wednesday as Alfred came to the Kessel Athletic Complex.

The Saxons came out on top, 3-1, in the non-conference contest.

"I thought we played really well today, but a few mistakes really cost us," Head Coach Nathan Whitehurst said. "We had our chances throughout the game but couldn't finish them."

With the result, both teams move to identical 1-5 records so far this season.

Chase Rider scored the Panthers' lone goal, coming in the 47th minute. 

The two teams held tough in the early minutes until Alfred jumped out to the early lead in the 25th minute.

The Saxons then doubled their lead four minutes later.

A goal with just five seconds remaining in the first half sent Alfred into the break ahead, 3-0.

Alfred outshot the Panthers in the first half, 13-4, and had seven corner kick attempts to the Panthers' two.

But the second half was a different story, as the Panthers controlled the tempo.

Two minutes into the second half, the Panthers owned possession around the Alfred box.

Rider sent one toward the net, past the Alfred keeper and into the back of the net to put the Panthers on the board.

For the second half, the Panthers outshot Alfred, 8-5, and forced the Saxons' keeper to make four saves.

With 24 seconds left, Rider was fouled inside the box and was awarded a penalty kick.

He fired toward the right post, but the attempt was sent wide by the Alfred keeper and the Panthers were unable to cut into the deficit.

Sihle Sizani played all 90 minutes in goal for the Panthers, making six saves on nine shots on goal.

Rider led the Panthers with four shots on goal, while Lucien Kalkhof put a pair of shots on net. Dakotah Graham and Brent Kennedy put a shot on goal apiece to round out Pitt-Bradford's eight shots on goal.

Up next, the Panthers will play host to Baldwin Wallace Saturday for a 2:15 p.m. kickoff. The matchup will be part of a doubleheader with the women's team playing before.
