Franciscan held of a gritty effort from the Pitt-Bradford men's soccer team Saturday, defeating the Panthers 1-0 in AMCC action.

The Barons entered the match unbeaten in conference play and atop the table with Penn State Behrend and Medaille. Franciscan struck for the game's only goal in the fourth minute. A loose ball in the box bounced up and the Barons' Leo Herrmann headed it in for his league-leading 16th score.

The Panthers frustrated the Barons' attack all afternoon despite being outshot 19-7. Franciscan held a 10-8 advantage in corner kicks yet never mustered a serious attack off its set pieces.

Pitt-Bradford's Sam Franchi nearly provided the equalizer in the 84th minute off a free kick from 35 yards out, but the Barons' goalkeeper turned it away at the last second.

The Panthers drop to 1-9-1 on the season, including 1-2-1 in AMCC play, and travel to Medaille Wednesday.
