Alfred State Scores Late to Knock Off Panthers

Alfred State scored the go-ahead goal in the 71st minute Wednesday night to defeat the Pitt-Bradford men's soccer team, 2-1.

The Pioneers led 1-0 at the break, outshooting the Panthers 13-5 in the opening frame. In the 48th minute, Mohammed Al Qahtani's header off a corner kick found the back of the net for the Panthers' first goal of the season, tying the match at one. Brian Bao was credited with the assist. Alfred State's Jake Vattimo used the same script in the 71st minute to put Alfred State ahead for good.

Pitt-Bradford's Frederic Agou and Noah Black both had chances in the later stages of the match yet their attempts were high. Steven McFetridge's shot in the 81st minute was stopped, and the Panthers failed to convert on a corner kick opportunity in the game's final seconds.

Alfred State outshot the Panthers 20-10 and held a 7-4 edge in corner kicks. Colin Frownfelter was credited with 10 saves and McFetridge led the Panthers with three shots.

Pitt-Bradford drops to 0-8 on the season and will host Pitt-Greensburg Saturday at 3 p.m.
