The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford men's soccer team (1-9-1, 0-5) delivered one of its best offensive efforts of the season, but ultimately fell just short in a 3-2 loss to Mt. Aloysius (8-4-1) on Saturday afternoon at the Kessel Athletic Complex.
Meleki Wamalume was terrific for the Panthers, scoring both of the team's goals. Josiah Blick, Brendan Cross and Colin Irwin notched assists, and Colin Frownfelter gathered a season-high 12 saves in the loss.
"Our boys fought very bravely throughout the game," said Pitt-Bradford head coach Darek Panol. "We had some great individual performances from both of our forwards, Josiah and Meleki, who really are coming around as a very dangerous tandem."
Wamalume's first goal of the day came on a beautiful feed from Blick that went through a Mounties defender. Cross started the scoring play from the far side of the field.
The Mounties came roaring back, scoring the game's next three goals, and taking a 3-1 lead in the 55th minute.
Wamalume then brought the Panthers within 3-2, finishing a rebound off of a long shot from far beyond the 18 by Irwin.
However, the Mounties maintained possession over the final 25 minutes, securing the 3-2 victory.
"Unfortunately we had some key injuries throughout the game," Panol said. "I really think that prevented us from coming all the way back."
The Panthers continue AMCC play Tuesday at 2 p.m. at D'Youville.
