Panthers in 7th After Day 1 of Mountain Valley Classic

Altoona, Pa. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford golf team returned to action in the Altoona area on Friday as they played the first round of the Mountain Valley Collegiate Classic, a two-round event hosted by Penn-State Altoona and Mount Aloysius, The Panthers played the first round at Sinking Valley Country Club, and currently sit in 7th place after recording a team score of 332.

The hosts of the first round, Penn State-Altoona, lead the event after a first round 299. Heading into the 2nd day, the Panthers will look to jump Penn State-Harrisburg in 6th, while Penn State-Altoona's 2nd team, Saint Vincent, Mount Aloysius, and Penn College are all within 20 strokes of the Panthers. They will also hope to hold off challenges from a second Mount Aloysius team and Hilbert who are two strokes behind them.

Evan Jordan led the way for the Panthers, carding his second straight 79. He is currently tied for 15th place. Brody Kamuda finished two strokes behind Jordan at 81, while Connor Smith posted an 82. Max Bizzak rounded up the scoring for the Panthers with an 88. Dominic Puma shot the highest competition round for the Panthers at 92, while Andrew Heinze played as an individual and shot an 85. Heinze's score was the lowest among the 6 individual competitors.

Day two of the competition will take place at Summit Country Club in Cresson, Pa., and is hosted by Mount Aloysius.  Play is slated to begin at 11:00 a.m. tomorrow with the Panthers set to begin teeing off at 11:36.
