Panthers Open Season with 3rd Place Finish

Bradford, Pa. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford golf team opened their season on Saturday, hosting the annual Pitt-Bradford Invitational at the Pennhills Club in Bradford. The Panthers finished with a score of 310, which put them in a third-place finish in the tournament.

The Panthers finished 12 strokes behind the winners, Penn State-Altoona, and 4 strokes off 2nd place, Hobart. They were 7 strokes ahead of Mount Aloysius, who finished 4th.

Freshman Curtis Barner paced the Panthers as he shot a 5-over par 75, which gave him a 7th-place finish in his first collegiate tournament. Sophomores Connor Smith (T8th) and Broderick Kamuda (t13) were just behind him, shooting a 76 and 78 respectively. Senior Evan Jordan fired an 81 to round out the scoring for the Panthers, while freshman Max Bizzak posted an 83.

Three Panthers also competed as individuals in the event. Dominic Puma led the trio with an 87, while sophomore Andrew Heinze shot a 94 and Edward Ritts posted a 101.

The Panthers will be back in action on Wednesday, as they will travel to Buffalo to play in the Medaille Invitational. The tourney is scheduled to begin at 12:00 p.m., at Diamond Hawk Golf Club in Buffalo.
