BRADFORD, Pa. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford began its 2019 season the best way possible, capturing the win at the annual Pitt-Bradford Invitational at Pennhills Golf Club and doing so by shooting the lowest score in program history at 299.

"It's a great way to start the year," Head Coach Keith Stauffer said. "We broke the school record, but still left a lot of strokes out there. This team is special. The sky is the limit for them as long as they keep practicing like they have been. It was great to have so much support at the course today as well."

Pitt-Bradford's victory came comfortably, as the Panthers finished 12 strokes ahead from the next closest team, Penn State-Behrend, which shot a 311 as a team.

15 total teams made up of 13 different schools competed in the event, with Penn State-Behrend and Westminster carrying two teams of five golfers each.

Cary Ignaczak captured the individual victory for the day, shooting a 70 overall.

Cooper Cordova and Jamie Rook tied for seventh overall with scores of 76.

Just a stroke behind was Sam Marchini, who's 77 was good for an 11th overall tie.

And just a stroke behind Marchini was Matt Moonan, who shot a 78 for a 14th place tie.

Also competing for the Panthers as individuals, as Nick Mole shot an 81 and Jarod Chaffee fired an 84.

Up next, Pitt-Bradford will head to Penn State-DuBois for a competition Monday, Sept. 9.
