Gardner, Moonan Lead Panthers to Fourth-Place Finish at AMCC's

Brett Gardner finished tied for fourth individually and Matt Moonan was sixth to lead the Pitt-Bradford men's golf team to a fourth-place showing at the AMCC Championships. The two-day event concluded Monday in Warren, Ohio.

Penn State Behrend captured the team title with a score of 630 to earn the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament. La Roche finished runner-up, 11 shots back of Behrend (641), and Penn State Altoona was third (658). The Panthers posted a two-day score of 666, 20 shots of ahead of fifth-place Pitt-Greensburg.

Gardner put together one of the best individual rounds Monday, recording a 6-over 78 to jump up 11 spots from day one and into the top five. Only four golfers finished the final round with a better score than Gardner, who wrapped up play with an overall score of 161.

Moonan slipped on the back nine during the final round yet still managed to finish with a 10-over 82 to finish with a two-day score of 162. The Bradford native was the top finisher among all freshman golfers.

Sam Marchini missed a top 10 finish by two strokes, registering an 83 to finish with an overall score of 165.

Tom Morlock fired an 89 and had a two-day score of 178, good for 27th overall, and Jamie Rook had a 91 on the final day to finish tied for 34th (182).

Sunday, Oct. 9 - Day One Recap

The Pitt-Bradford men's golf team sits in a tie for third place after day one of the AMCC Championships in Warren, Ohio. 

Penn State Behrend is currently in first with a team-score of 313, seven shots ahead of La Roche (320). Pitt-Bradford and Penn State Altoona both posted identical scores of 334, and Pitt-Greensburg rounds out the top five with a first-day tally of 337.

Matt Moonan fired an eight-over, 80 and is tied for sixth individually to lead all Panthers. Sam Marchini recorded an 82 to finish tied for 13th, one shot ahead of Brett Gardner, who is tied for 15th overall. 

Tom Morlock posted a round of 89 and Jamie Rook carded a 91 to cap the Panthers' opening day results.

The final round of the AMCC Championships resumes Monday at 9 a.m.
