Panthers Unable to Keep Up With Lions, Fall 93-62

Erie, Pa. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford men's basketball team stayed within two possessions of the 2nd place Penn State-Behrend for the opening 10 minutes on Saturday but were unable to keep up the pace as they fell to the Lions 93-62.

  • The Panthers got off to a strong shooting start in the game as Isaiah and Greg Archie each made early three-pointers for Pitt-Bradford, giving them a 6-5 lead after two minutes. The Hosts quickly answered, scoring 5 straight until Nathan Schneider got on the board with a putback layup 4:05 into the game. Following a Lion layup, Schneider made a three on a pass from Trey Oyler to cut the lead back to 1 point. The Panthers held their ground for the next two minutes as Schneider and Isaiah Archie each made layups to keep the Panthers behind by just one possession, but a quick 5 point swing saw the Lions jump ahead. 
  • Greg and Isaiah Archie each added another layup in the next few minutes, but it was followed by a 31-6 run over the last 7:25 of the half which allowed the Lions to open up a sizeable advantage. Schneider made two layups in the stretch, while Isaiah Archie added another, sending the game to the break with the Panthers trailing 52-27.
  • Schneider and Isaiah Archie continued to carry the majority of the offense as the second half began as the pair scored the first 15 points of the period for the Panthers. Schneider scored 10 in the span, including two three-point plays. while Archie added a pair of layups and a free throw. Hayden Adams hit a three with 10:17 remaining and added a layup a few moments later to become the third Panther to score in the half.
  • The Panthers were able to cut into a 30-point Lion advantage when three separate players made threes on consecutive possessions. Gus Napoleon, Alex Rodriguez, and Lennon Lindholm all made their threes with Lindholm and Jordin Sommers picking up assists. The Panthers were only able to muster six more points in the last 7 minutes of play. Sommers made a free throw and Lindholm converted a layup in transition, while Jackson McManus closed the scoring with a three.  

Nathan Schneider led the Panthers with 21 points on 9-16 shooting including 1-2 from beyond the arc. He made both free throws he attempted. He finished with a team-high 9 rebounds, breaking his 8 game double-double streak. Isaiah Archie added 16 for the Panthers. He made 7-13 from the field, 1-3 from three, and 1-2 from the line. He added 3 rebounds and led the team with 3 assists. 

The Panthers (9-14, 4-10) will return to action on Monday, as they will host LaRoche in a previously postponed matchup. The Panthers enter the contest clinging to playoff hopes as they will need to win both of their remaining games to have a better chance to qualify for postseason play. The game is scheduled to begin at 7:30 in KOA Arena.
