Panthers Basketball Unable to Control Spartans Inside, Lose 90-59

Buffalo, N.Y. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford men's Basketball team was unable to slow a D'Youville attack that outscored them 48-22 inside the paint on Wednesday night, leading them to a 59-90 defeat.

Game Notes

  • The Panthers got off to a strong start through the play of Dylan Meyer in the early going. Meyer scored 8 points in the first 4 minutes of play to give the Panthers an early 5 point lead. He made 3 layups, with one coming off of an offensive rebound, and added two free throws to begin the game.
  • In the following three and a half minutes, the teams exchanged 5 point swings that saw the Spartans tie things at 10, but the Panthers respond and push the lead back to 5. The Panthers' points came from Miles Parker who hit a three-pointer with 13:48 to go, and after a defensive stop, drew a foul and made the free throws.
  • The Panther offense went cold after the Parker free throws, as they were outscored 33-6 over a 13-minute span to close the half. The Panthers' points in the run came on 4 free throws and a Nick Carmichael layup.
  • The Pitt-Bradford bigs tried to get the Panthers back into the game in the first minutes of the first half, scoring 6 early points. Carmichael started things with a mid-range jumper and Meyer threw down a slam dunk to follow it. Meyer also continued the rally 45 seconds later, making a layup on a feed from Alex Rodriguez.
  • The Spartans pushed their lead to as many as 39 points in the second half, as they shot 50 % from the field and 33% from three in the period. The Panthers were not able to get the lead back under 30 for the remainder of the game despite a much improved shooting touch over the final 20 minutes.

Leaders:

  • Dylan Meyer led the Panthers in scoring for the 2nd consecutive game. He scored 15 points on 6 of 8 from the field and 3 of 6 from the free-throw line. He also was the team's leading rebounder, grabbing 8 in the game.
  • Fellow freshman Nick Carmichael was also able to finish in double figures for the Panthers. He scored 12 points, including 10 in the second half.

The Panthers are now 1-12 on the season with an 0-9 record in AMCC play. They will hit the road again this weekend as they travel to Mount Aloysius for a 2:00 p.m. tip on Saturday, January 18th.
