BRADFORD, Pa. – The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford men's basketball team fell to Alfred State Wednesday, 82-64, at the KOA Arena in its non-conference finale.
Christian Kelly-Perkins and Dylan Niedermeyer had 13 points apiece to lead the Panthers offensively.
All 13 of Kelly-Perkins' points came in the second half.
With the two teams level in the early minutes of the game, Niedermeyer knocked down a three-ball to give Pitt-Bradford an 11-9 lead at the 15:13 mark.
Alfred State then went on a 10-0 run and opened up a 19-11 lead with 10 minutes left in the half.
Colby Mills broke the run with a three-pointer, putting the Panthers within five.
The two teams then traded buckets but Alfred State scored six-straight points before a Reggie Rogers layup broke the run at the 6:06 mark.
In the final minute of the game, the Pioneers scored six-straight points and took a 39-29 lead into halftime.
Niedermeyer's eight points and four boards in the first half led the way for the Panthers.
A free throw from Dylan Mitchell a minute-and-a-half into the second half served as the first points of the period and brought the Panthers to within single digits.
Later down 10 again at the 14:24 mark, Kelly-Perkins caught fired and knocked down a pair of three-pointers and a layup to bring the score to 46-43 with under 12 minutes to play.
Kelly-Perkins later answered four-straight Pioneer points with another timely three-ball, keeping the Panthers close at 50-46.
After an Alfred State three-pointer, Mitchell and Sahlil Harris connected on buckets on back-to-back possessions to re-cut the deficit to three points, 53-50, with under 10 minutes to play.
But a late-game run sent Alfred State to the convincing win as a 17-4 run put the Pioneers back up double-digits, 70-54, with 2:42 to play.
Free throws the rest of the way helped Alfred State hang on for the 82-64 win.
The Panthers forced 12 turnovers and collected seven steals as a team.
The Panthers knocked down five three-pointers, three coming from Kelly-Perkins and one apiece from Niedermeyer and Mills.
Defensively, the Panthers held Alfred State to eight misses and just two makes from deep.
Rogers once again led the Panthers in assists with five. Also of his five boards, four were offensive rebounds to lead the team.
Ugwunna Amadi earned his first career start and played a career-high 21 minutes, scoring seven points.
After tonight's performance, Kelly-Perkins is 22 points shy of reaching 1,000 on his collegiate career.
Up next, the Panthers will resume AMCC play and host Franciscan Saturday. The department of athletics and Alpha Phi Omega chapter will be hosting the third-annual "Teal There's a Cure" campaign to raise awareness for ovarian cancer.
