BRADFORD, Pa. – The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford men's basketball team dropped its home opener, 90-73, Wednesday night in its first Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference game of the season.

"We had a tough time defending the other team tonight," Head Coach Sean Brown Sr. said. "Their best player showed up, and that's why he was picked as the AMCC's Preseason Player of the Year. Although Jalen didn't shoot well from long distance, he hurt us in so many other ways. Bottom line: he's special. We didn't have an answer for him tonight. Our defense has to play better, and I need to make better in-game adjustments."

Desmond Brogsdale led the way for the Panthers with 16 points while Malique McCoy dropped 12. Dylan Mitchell scored 10 points of his own as the third Panther with a double-figure scoring total.

The Hawks held the Panthers to a 27.3 percentage from the field in the first half and capitalized, connecting on 51.4 percent on their own shots.

Hilbert maintained control of the offense in the first half and took a 51-30 lead into the break. 

Brogsdale came off the bench and scored 12 quick points for the Panthers to lead the way at the break.

The early minutes of the second half saw much of the same, as Hilbert opened up its largest lead of the game with 10 minutes remaining in the second half.

But Pitt-Bradford would hang tough, eventually outscoring the Hawks, 43-39, in the second half.

Zach Dahlstrand came off the bench and lit a spark for the Panthers on both sides of the ball, grabbing three steals while connecting on all three of his field goal attempts – including a transition three-pointer – for seven points in just five minutes of action.

In addition to Dahlstrand's three steals, Sahlil Harris, Jacob Sutton and Ugwunna Amadi all collected a pair of their own.

Sutton collected the team-high in rebounds with five. Reginald Rogers dished out a team-best three assists.

Pitt-Bradford connected on four three-pointers, two of which from McCoy.

The Panthers will stay home and host La Roche Saturday for their second-straight home conference contest.
