UPB Men Secure AMCC Berth with Victory over Medaille

BRADFORD, Pa. - The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford men's basketball team locked up a spot in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference playoffs with an 85-78 victory over Medaille (10-14, 9-8) on Wednesday afternoon in the KOA Arena.

The dynamic scoring duo of Evan Greening and Eric Matheson once again provided some offensive fireworks. Greening posted yet another double-double with 31 points and 19 rebounds while Matheson followed with 25 points, seven boards and six assists. Manny Welch rounded out the Panthers in double figures with 16 points in the victory.

Chris Willingham led the Mavericks offense with 21 points, going 5-8 from beyond the arc while Mike Hollenbeck followed with 19 points. Jonathan Belton chipped in with 13 points and Miles Newcomb added 12 points in the loss.

The Panthers dominated the glass, outrebounding the Mavericks 47-24 while also holding a 44-28 advantage in points in the paint.

The game would be tied nine times with the lead changing hands 16 times in the back and forth contest. Medaille led by as many as five early on, but Pitt-Bradford outmuscled the mavericks in the second half, leading by as many as 12 with 2:08 left in the game to ensure the victory.

The Panthers were a much better team in the second half, shooting more than 50 percent from the floor, including 40-percent from beyond the arc and a near perfect 93.3% from the charity stripe.

Pitt-Bradford took charge of the game with 4:39 left, as Steven Owens sparked a 10-0 Panthers run, giving them a 12-point lead with just over two minutes left.

Fateem Brockington, Welch and Matheson combined to go 6-6 from the line in the final 20 seconds to secure the key conference victory over the Mavericks.

The Panthers close out the regular season Saturday afternoon at one at Mt. Aloysius.
