Hawks Late Run Leads to Victory over UPB Men

The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford men's basketball team (2-9, 1-3) suffered a 101-89 defeat at Hilbert on Wednesday night. 

Evan Greening was dominant, picking up another double-double with 33 points and 12 rebounds. He also scored his 1,000th point of his collegiate career in the first half. Eric Matheson was the leading scorer for the Panthers with 34 points and four assists. Manny Welch finished with 13 points in the loss. 

Jalen Smith led the Hawks with 27 points while Sean Weisanal added 23 points and Jerame Owens chipped in with 17 in the victory. 

The Panthers and Hawks traded buckets the majority of the night, but Hilbert cashed in on 23 of their 29 free throws in the second half, with the majority of them coming late in the game. 

The Panthers took a three-point lead early in the second half when a Greening layup and a free throw led to a 50-47 lead with 17:27 left to play.

The Hawks responded with a run of their own, extending their lead to 67-60 later in the half.

Pitt-Bradford was as close as 85-80, but the Hawks went 14-14 from the line in the game's final three minutes.

The UPB basketball teams return to action Saturday afternoon at the KOA Arena against Penn State Altoona. The men's game is set to tip at 1 p.m. while the women's game follows at 3 p.m.
