WOOSTER, Oh. – The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford men's basketball team (2-7) fell, 79-59, to the College of Wooster (6-3) in the opening round of the annual Kiwanis Tournament on Tuesday night at Wooster.
The Panthers will now play for third place, Wednesday at 5 p.m. against the College of Mount St. Joseph. The Lions fell 83-80 to 8th-ranked Marietta in the first game of the night.
"They got hot in their own gym," said Pitt-Bradford head coach Britt Moore. "They made some tough three-pointers and that was the difference in the game. It's time for us to bounce back for another game tomorrow."
Evan Greening led the Panthers offense, just missing a double-double with 17 points and eight boards. Sahlil Harris had a solid night, scoring 10 points and gathering seven rebounds off of the bench. Jon Haenel added eight points in just 10 minutes while Colton Holzwarth chipped in with seven points and two blocks in the loss.
The Fighting Scots set the tone in the first half, jumping out to an early lead in the first five minutes. However, Pitt-Bradford fought back, as Harris drilled a mid-range jumper, followed by a three-point play by Evan Greening just seconds after checking back in the game. Greening's bucket gave the Panthers an 11-10 with just under 13 minutes left in the first half.
The Fighting Scots responded with an 11-0 run over the next seven minutes, taking 21-13 lead with seven minutes left. Wooster's offense didn't slow down, as the Fighting Scots held a 10-point advantage at the half
Wooster was lights out in the second half, shooting nearly 50 percent from the floor, and nearly 60 percent from beyond the arc to lead the Fighting Scots to a 79-59 victory.
