Bradford, Pa. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford baseball team will bring its season to a close on Tuesday as they host Wilson College in a non-conference showdown.
The Panthers are 12-22 on the season and have finished their AMCC schedule at 5-11. They complete the regular season in 8th place, three games out of a playoff spot. In their last action, they were able to pick up a split at Penn State Altoona. They were unable to hold on to a 7th inning lead in the opener, losing in a walk-off 10-9, but were able to shut the door in game two, winning 5-3.
Sophomore catcher Evan Fragela leads the team with a .371 batting average. He has totaled 13 extra-base hits, 16 runs batted in, and scored 24 runs. Fellow backstop Jake McNabb has been hot of late, as he is hitting .336 with 16 RBIs. Noah Meyers leads the team with 5 home runs and after hitting .377 in AMCC play, has brought his season average up to .297. Kevin Rehak hit .283 in AMCC play with 3 home runs out of the leadoff spot. Alex Miles leads the pitching stagg with 4 wins and a 4.63 ERA. Lefty Alex Fetter performed well in conference play, pitching in 4 games against AMCC opponents to finish 2-1 with a 3.71 era and a save.
The Wilson Phoenix are 27-9 on the year, including a 10-2 mark in CSAC play. They are coming off of two huge wins over Clarks Summit. The only common opponent for the teams is fellow AMCC member Mount Aloysius. The Mounties swept the Phoenix in two tight games, winning 5-4 and 4-3. Freshman infielder Doc Daniels leads the team with a .438 average. He also has 25 runs scored and 29 driven in. Gerald Buchanan has hit 5 home runs to lead the Phoneix, while Dean Mercer is their most potent run producer, driving in 35. Chris Baumann and Cam Nolet have led the pitching staff. Baumann is 9-2 with a 2.06 era, while Nolet is 7-0 with a 2.51 era.
Although originally scheduled for a doubleheader, the teams have agreed to play 1 9-inning contest as there is rain in forecast for the Bradford area this evening. The game will begin at 1:30.
