The Pitt-Bradford baseball team split with Hiram Friday at the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic in Fort Myers, Florida. The Panthers won the opening game 3-1 but fell 13-6 in the nightcap.

Justin Beimel yielded one run on four hits in seven innings to lift the Blue and Gold in the first game. He struck out four and worked around five walks, including three in one inning, to pick up his first win of the season.

Beimel's only blemish was a RBI double in the fourth inning with the Panthers leading by three. He responded by retiring the next two batters and 11 of the final 13 Hiram hitters.

All three of Pitt-Bradford's runs came in the third inning. Tyler Hoops walked with one out, stole second base and scored on Kyle Hunt's single through the right side of the infield. Two batters later, Austin Parent connected for a two-run homer to left field, extending the Panthers' advantage to 3-0.

Hiram threatened in the bottom half of the inning by loading the bases with two outs, but Beimel induced a fly ball to escape the jam.

Pitt-Bradford committed six errors in the second game, including three in the first inning, to fuel the Terriers' seven-run victory. Hiram led 4-2 after the first and scored 10 runs in the first three innings.

Starter Benjamin Hayes was charged for all 10 runs, six of which were earned, in 2.2 innings pitched. He gave up nine hits, walked two and struck out four.

Brock Blovsky, Brody Wood and Hunt each went 2-3 with a RBI, and Jay Clinger drove in three runs.

Pitt-Bradford drops to 3-7 on the season and closes out its Spring Break schedule Saturday with a doubleheader against Bethel.
