Pitt-Bradford Athletics Pairs with Special Olympics for Bowling with a Buddy

Bradford, PA. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford athletics department paired up with the McKean County Special Olympics chapter over the weekend to host the annual Bowling with a Buddy event at Billye Lanes in Bradford.

For the 12th time, Pitt-Bradford student-athletes joined Special Olympians from the Bradford community for an afternoon of fun as they joined the Olympians at the bowling event, cheering them on as they competed. Despite the event being held over fall break, more than 60 Panthers' representing 10 intercollegiate sports teams attended the event.

"This is a wonderful event every year, and I am happy that we are able to help the great people at Special Olympics put it on," said athletic director Bret Butler. "The joy and fun the Olympians and our student-athletes share is evident and we can't wait until we can work with them again."

Bowling with a Buddy is one of many events that Pitt-Bradford Athletics and McKean County Special Olympics have combined on. Every year the two have combined on Special Olympic swimming while also joining forces to put a float in the Bradford Area High School Homecoming Parade.

McKean County Special Olympics is a year-round program in which over 360 athletes with mental and physical disabilities compete in softball, bowling, running, basketball, golf, skiing, and swimming. For more information on the organization, click here.
